Attractive Cage
(Amelia's Journey)
2003-10-01
Doug Schenker-John Starr
Amelia drafts a pre-nuptial agreement and calls marriage an attractive cage and says if it doesn’t work out in a year we go our separate ways. George agrees to her terms. In the play "If You Were Mine" and "Attractive Cage" are performed as a medley/duet.
"ATTRACTIVE CAGE"
So you want to make today our wedding day
There is a catchy chorus to the tune that you play
I don't know the reason
I should get involved
When all my problems marriage-wise remain unresolved
CHORUS:
You paint pretty colors on the bars
fill it with garlands, flowers, jewels and jade
with knickknacks from North African bazaars
and it's still an attractive cage
BRIDGE: My history's such a mangled web
It's twisted & it's dark
My parents lost their happiness
So I'm afraid to start
Happiness may not be in this marriage game
Don't promise to be faithful & I will do the same
I may need to get away & be on my own
And have a separate place to go I can call my home
CHORUS:
You paint pretty colors on the bars
fill it with garlands, flowers, jewels and jade
with knickknacks from North African bazaars
and it's still an attractive cage
CODA:
But I will marry you
If it doesn't work out in a year, we will part
